Music Ministry

The Music Ministry at Holy Family is made up of many people devoted to the Church and to the art of music. It consists of instrumentalist, organists, vocalists and choirs who work diligently to 'make a joyful noise unto the Lord!' Holy family has six different choirs that sing at Mass.

Folk Choir - The Folk Choir sings regularly at the Saturday evening anticipatory Mass at 5 PM. They rehearse at 4 PM and sing contemporary songs for the Liturgy. The Folk Choir is accompanied by guitarists and occasionally a keyboard or other instruments as is fitting. The director of this choir is Kinter Bernard, Jr.

Schola Cantorum - The Schola Cantorum (or 'Schola', for short) is a special choir formed to challenge our musicians and to bring beauty to our liturgies. We sing according to the teachings of the Church, by following the guidelines laid out for us in liturgical documents. This choir is by audition only. The Schola sings at the 9 AM Sunday Mass from September through June and they rehearse on Monday nights from 7:30 - 9 PM. The director for the Schola Cantorum is Kelly Kingett.

Women's Chant Schola - The Women's Chant Schola is a small group of women who chant the Ordinary and the Propers for Mass using the Gregorian Missal. While the entire Mass is not in Latin, this choir chants in Latin the Introit, Kyrie, Gloria, Alleluia, Offertory, Sanctus, Agnus Dei and Communion. They sing once a month at the 9 AM Sunday Mass and they rehearse on Wednesday nights from 7:30 - 9 PM. Kelly Kingett is the Director.

Spanish Choir - the Spanish Choir sings year round at the 12:30 PM Spanish Mass. They specialize in Spanish music, naturally, but they also chant in both Spanish and Latin, and they combine with other choirs for any bilingual Liturgies. They utilize many different musicals sounds including string and wind instruments, piano and organ. The director is Lucy Acosta and they rehearse Thursday nights from 7:30 - 9 PM.

Children's Choir - The Children's Choir is made up of children in grades 4-8 who love to sing. They sing on the third Sunday at the 10:30 AM Mass and they rehearse on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 PM from September - May. The Children's Choir performs for the Diocesan Choral Festival as well as Sound Sharp at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

High School Youth Choir - Holy Family's High School Youth Choir is for any high school age student. It is geared around the crazy schedules and super busy lives of a high school student. Because of this, they rehearse on Sundays from 5:30-6:30 PM, a time which piggy-backs with our High School Religious Education Program. They sing on the fourth Sunday of the month October-May, at the 10:30 AM Mass as well as for Living Stations of the Cross on at 3 PM Good Friday.
