Deacon Aaron Zanca BIO

My name is Deacon Aaron Zanca, and I will be spending the next year with you all at Holy Family Parish. I was just ordained a deacon by Bishop Michael Burbidge at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Arlington on April 26, 2025 and then graduated from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia a few weeks after that with a Master’s in Pastoral Theology. I was born and raised in the Pensacola, Fl. area with my three brothers, where my dad was stationed at Hurlburt Field during his time serving in the Air Force. I graduated from Pensacola High School in 2015, and then from the University of West Florida with my Bachelor’s in Arts in Art History in 2017. I then went on to begin discerning a priestly vocation while studying at the Conciliar Seminary of St. Indaletius of Almería in Spain. I returned to the United States and worked for a year at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Alexandria, VA. where I was the Assistant Director of the Youth and Young Adult Apostolate. I was accepted as a seminarian for Arlington Diocese in 2022, where I spent time gaining pastoral experience at two of our parishes, Sacred Heart in Winchester and St. Leo in Fairfax. I might be fluent in Spanish, but my last name is Sicilian! I love my Italian roots and try to honor many of the traditions I have received over the years. My grandmother is polish so, I have a special devotion to our lady, especially under the advocation of Our Lady of the Assumption of Czestochowa. I have many hobbies including soccer, running, painting, cooking, winemaking, and woodworking. I’m looking forward to getting to know you!

Me llamo el diácono Aaron Zanca, y voy a pasar el próximo años con ustedes en la parroquia de la Sagrada Familia. Fui ordenado al diaconado por las manos del Monseñor Michael Burbidge el dia 26 de Abril en la catedral de Santo Tomás Moro en Arlington. Luego me graduaba con una Maestría en Teología Pastoral del Seminario San Carlos Borromeo en la Archidiocesis de Filadelfia algunas semanas después de mi ordenación. Algunos detalles sobre mi persona, soy el tercero de cuatro hermanos, soy natural de Pensacola, Florida donde mi padre hizo su carrera militar en la base área de Hurlburt Field. Me gradué de Pensacola High School y luego con un Bachiller en Artes en la Historia del Arte en 2017. Después de la universidad, empezaba descubrir mi vocación sacerdotal en el seminario conciliar de san Indalecio de Almería en España donde estudiaba por cuatro años. Después del etapa español, volvía a EE. UU. Trabajando en la Basílica de Santa María de Alexandria, VA como el director asistente del apostolado de los jóvenes adultos y adolescentes. Fui aceptado como seminarista de la diócesis de Arlington en 2022. Hice un año pastoral en las parroquias de Sagrado Corazón de Winchester y San León Magno en Fairfax, VA. Aunque hablo el castellano con fluidez, soy un italiano y orgulloso de mi cultura y mi apellido siciliano. Me encanta nuestras costumbres italianas y intento honrarlas en mi vida durante el año. Una abuela es polaca, por eso tengo devoción a Nuestra Señora, especialmente bajo la advocación de Nuestra Señora de la asunción de Czestochowa. Tengo varios pasatiempos como el futbol, correr, pintar, labrar la madera, cocinar, y de hacer vino! Tengo ganas de conocerles a lo largo del año.
