Reconciliation

We used to say “I’m going to confession”. The church has adopted the name Sacrament of Reconciliation. The change of title indicates a shift in emphasis; from a focus on our sins to God’s reconciling mercy.

The new rite of reconciliation provides many acts of contrition. Here are two shorter versions that are scriptural and easily remembered, especially by children.

How often should I go? The usual rule is “When conscious of grave sin”. For those who rarely avail themselves of this sacrament, participation is encouraged during the seasons of repentance; Advent and Lent.
